In-flight reflections

From ten thousand metres in the sky
You wonder why
The sun sends mirrored messages
From the silvered waters upwards.

In this harmonic blue
You wonder who
Is meant to read these messages
As they sparkle, splintered, skywards.

At this sky-piercing speed
You try to read
A meaning in the messages,
Find some connection,
Some direction,
In the bright landlake reflections.
And then you see the light.

The meaning's here
In this frail craft,
In flight,
Inside your head.

There is no other message
To be read.
